engage people in citizen science
We create bridges
between science and society
through active participation
EPICS is a European KA2 project to empower universities, students, and local communities to co-create knowledge and foster civic engagement. 8 institutions will create pilots in 6 countries to design academic research actions with students and communities.

What do we plan to do?
A training for students and researchers on citizen science, research service learning, co-design methodologies and participatory practices.
A digital platform with deliberative arenas for building and delivering citizen science and research service learning projects.
6 pilot projects engaging local communities in citizen science initiatives.
A toolkit for replicating the model across Europe.
A handbook with guidelines, methodologies, and best practices for effectively engaging communities in design research actions.
What is the project about?
Citizen Science
Scientific research conducted, in whole or in part, by amateur or non-professional scientists, often in collaboration with professional researchers.
Civic committment
Active participation in community life through volunteering, advocacy, political action, or public dialogue to improve the common good and strengthen democracy.
Service Learning
A teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich learning and strengthen communities.
A form of democracy in which deliberation is central to decision-making. It emphasizes reasoned debate, inclusivity, and collective judgment.
